How did you start Reperio Human Capital?

I always enjoyed chatting with people and wanted to continue this as a career. I started researching the role of a recruitment consultant and soon found that it was heavily focused on sales and building relationships with job-seekers and companies. I was immediately motivated by the financial and career opportunities within the market. I wanted to join a small company where I could grow and become an integral part of the team. After researching the market and finding that Reperio offered this opportunity, I applied immediately and did everything I could to show I was ready for the challenging work of a consultant.

Give me a brief summary of your career to date

Having been with Reperio since 2013, I’ve seen everything.

I began as a Junior Recruitment Consultant, sinking my teeth into the C++, Embedded and Electronic Engineering market, building this desk from scratch, and rising through the ranks in Reperio.
Recently, however, I’ve changed paths and have taken a more internal business function, acting as the internal trainer and HR contact.

What are the biggest challenges in the market at the moment?

It’s a difficult question to answer, but from my experience, IT companies needing IT professionals with experience of all the cutting-edge technologies (in their field) can pose a major challenge. Many IT professionals have strong experience, but to get an experience of cutting-edge tech, they need to join a company who work with it – catch22.

What makes a successful Recruitment Consultant?

Three things – resilience (you’re going to face rejection, challenges and lots of disappointments so get ready for it), confidence (we speak with professionals, from graduates to CEO’s – you need to be confident and capable of voicing your opinion), and finally urgency (our industry is competitive and you need to be proactive if you want to be successful).

What is your ultimate career goal?

To become the HR manager within Reperio, to continue growing within the firm and enable it to continue putting its stamp on the international IT market.

What motivates you?

A great office environment and culture – it’s so much easier to go to work when you look forward to what you do.

What's your favourite part of working at Reperio?

The team. Being a recruitment consultant is tough, but everyone in Reperio is social and friendly. We work hard but we have the craic while we do it.

What has been the highlight of your career in Reperio?

Establishing a relationship with one particularly impressive company in Dublin, understanding their needs and culture inside out, and placing 12+ people within their team.

What do you like to do with your spare time?

I’m active. I grew up on the North Coast of Ireland, and if it’s sunny, you’ll always find me cliff jumping, rock climbing or doing something to enjoy the great scenery.

What’s a fun fact that not too many people know about you?

My name’s not Con.

Any final words of advice for anyone considering a new role in Recruitment?
