Senior QA Automation Engineer (Playwright) - 12 Month FTC

A growing technology organisation in a regulated industry is seeking a Senior QA Automation Engineer to join an Agile delivery team. This role strongly focuses on modern web automation using Playwright, alongside API testing and test strategy ownership.

You will play a key role in ensuring product quality through a mix of automation and manual testing, while driving best practices across the SDLC.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated test suites for web applications using Playwright
  • Develop API tests using tools such as RestAssured
  • Design, review, and execute test cases aligned to acceptance criteria
  • Identify gaps in coverage and improve overall test strategy
  • Perform exploratory, integration, regression, and negative testing
  • Analyse and debug failures in CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed quality across the SDLC
  • Contribute to defect triage, prioritisation, and release readiness
  • Provide testing estimates and support sprint planning
  • Mentor junior QA engineers

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong QA automation experience with a focus on Playwright
  • Proficiency in Java or Kotlin
  • Experience in API testing (e.g. RestAssured)
  • Familiarity with BDD/reporting tools such as Cucumber or Allure
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)
  • Knowledge of test management tools (e.g. TestRail)
  • Understanding of non-functional testing (performance, security)
  • Experience working in Agile environments
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable

  • Performance testing (e.g. Apache JMeter)
  • Familiarity with SonarQube
  • Mentoring or leadership experience
  • ISTQB certification
