Find out what companies are attending and research their websites. Check what they do, what their values are and the culture of the company. It can sometimes be hard to judge the culture of a company from their website alone, so check if they have a social media account to get a better insight.
2. Make a list of Questions
If you have well-structured questions prepared, you will be able to find out the information you really want to find out e.g. ‘What is the career progression like with Reperio?’. Asking questions that is relevant to something you saw on their website will be impressive and shows you are proactive and have a genuine professional interest.
3. Bring your CV
Employers attending recruitment fairs are normally open to accepting CVs on the day. Having copies of your CVs shows potential employers that you are prepared, organised and genuinely looking for a job (rather than just showing up for the freebies!)
4. Practice Your Elevator Pitch
Employers may ask you to tell them a bit about yourself at recruitment fairs. Don't get caught off guard, it may be a good idea to practice your elevator pitch to ensure that you get all the important points across in a clear and concise manner.
5. Dress Properly
It can be hard to decide what to wear to a graduate recruitment fair. At the end of the day, it’s not a job interview so you don’t need to show up in a three-piece suit but you will be talking to potential employers, so dress in clean pressed clothes. You want to strike a professional image to employers and make a good first impression.
6. Speak with Professionalism
You want to impress employers in the limited amount of time you are given. Therefore it is a good idea to come across professional and confident when speaking with potential employers.
7. Take Notes
Make a note or take a card of the organisations you speak to at the careers fair, it may be difficult to remember all their names. It may also be a good idea to go on LinkedIn and add them and start making connections.
