As we begin 2023, it is difficult to predict which programming languages will be the most popular in Ireland. However, based on current trends and industry developments, we can make some educated guesses.

The Cabinet has signed off on proposed new laws that will make it mandatory for all employers in Ireland to offer a minimum level of sick pay for employees. The Sick Leave Bill 2022 will be published and begin its passage through the Houses of Oireachtas. It will come into effect as soon as it is enacted. To reduce the burden on businesses, this new law will be phased in over a four-year period. Employers will initially be required to offer three days of sick leave per year, rising to five days in 2024, seven days in 2025 and ten days in 2026.

It was announced this week in Ireland that the Cabinet has signed off on proposed new laws to allow employees (who have been with a company for more than 6 months) to request remote working. Under this legislation, the employer must reply to the request within 12 weeks. The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar recognised that remote working was imposed on a lot of people because of public health restrictions. Now that restrictions have been lifted, he wants to give people the choice to decide.
