LinkedIn

In today’s digital world, networking and establishing a strong online presence have become important for professionals in their quest for career advancement. Among the numerous online platforms available, LinkedIn stands out as the most well-known professional networking site. With over 930 million users in more than 200 countries, LinkedIn has become an essential tool for job seekers.

Why should job seekers create a LinkedIn profile?

1. Expand your Professional Network

LinkedIn allows you to connect with like-minded individuals, potential employers, colleagues, industry experts and recruiters. It also allows you to connect with professionals in your field, across a wide range of industries, sectors and locations.

2. Discover Job Opportunities

Companies and recruiters actively use LinkedIn to post job openings. You can use the platform’s job search feature to filter results based on job title, industry, location etc. LinkedIn also provides a feature called “Easy Apply”, which allows you to submit your application quickly, without having to leave LinkedIn or fill in a lengthy application. Every second, 117 job applications are submitted on LinkedIn and 8 people are hired every minute.

3. Research Companies and Industries

LinkedIn allows you to research companies that you are interested in joining. You can see their job openings and get a feel for their company culture. Recently, LinkedIn added ‘Commitments’, allowing companies to highlight values important to them e.g. DEI, work-life balance, sustainability etc. According to LinkedIn, job seekers are evaluating potential employers based on their values.

4. Showcase your Skills & Experience

Your LinkedIn profile can act as your CV/resume, allowing you to showcase your professional brand online. On your individual LinkedIn profile, you can highlight your skills, education, work experience, achievements, and certifications. This makes it easier for recruiters and potential employers to see if you are suitable for the opportunities they have available. It also has a section for endorsements and recommendations, providing a powerful confirmation of your professional capabilities.

5. Learn new skills

LinkedIn Learning allows you to learn new skills through their expert-led course videos. There are over 5,000 courses you can choose from, depending on your field and interests. Once you complete these courses, LinkedIn allows you to add them to your LinkedIn profile.
