What Does a Recruitment Consultant Do?

Heard of the job title ‘Recruitment Consultant’ but unsure what this involves?

Essentially a Recruitment Consultant is someone who helps a job seeker find their next role, as well as working with companies to help them find the perfect candidate for their open position.

IT Recruitment Consultant

In Reperio, our Recruitment Consultants specialise in the IT market in the Republic of Ireland and the United States (North Carolina and Florida).

Therefore, our Recruitment Consultants help IT professionals find their next position (whether this is contract or permanent), as well as assisting companies in these areas to find the perfect candidates.

Training

From the very beginning, all Trainee Recruitment Consultants are provided with an in-depth training programme to help them become successful.

They are also allocated their very own niche IT market, for example Python Development. They will develop a specialist knowledge of this market, keeping up to date with market trends.

The Role

Recruitment Consultants in Reperio manage the entire recruitment process themselves and have complete autonomy over their work.

They are responsible for sourcing, targeting, and developing their portfolio of clients. They will build a relationship with these clients and if a role is available, they will talk through the requirements of the role.

They will also identify and source potential candidates through a variety of attraction methods (writing adverts, headhunting & searching the database etc), as well as arranging interviews.

Culture

Recruitment is a sales driven role, with Consultants being rewarded with commission for every candidate that they successfully place, on top of their base salary.

Although recruitment can be stressful and fast-paced, it is extremely rewarding, both professionally and financially. For example, one of our Consultants recently took home £23,000 in one month’s commission!

Requirements

Ideally, people considering applying to become a Recruitment Consultant should be degree educated (in any discipline) and have 6+ months experience in a sales role. This could be a sales position in a mobile phone shop, retail, call centre, banking, telesales, estate agency etc.

Candidates should also be financially motivated, resilient, have excellent communication skills (especially over the phone), strong work ethic, ability to thrive under pressure and the ability to work to tough deadlines. It is important to note that this position does not require any experience in the IT industry.
